St. Luke

I have many patron saints. Saints I call upon for intercession in particular situations and Saints that are my constant companions on the journey. I know Saints that are my friends' patron Saints, whom I entrust them to when they request special prayers.

There are also Saints that I have designated as certain family member's patron Saints.

St. Luke is one of these.

When I was in High School, I started taking up the Lives of the Saints daily to learn more about the more obscure ones we don't hear of often. In my reading, I came across St. Luke who is the patron Saint of Doctors and Surgeons. I told my father that he had his own special patron as he is a surgeon. From then on, every year, I have wished him a Happy Feast Day on October 18th, St. Luke's Feast Day.

The past 8 months have been very difficult as my father filed for divorce from my mother after 27 years of marriage. There are a lot of wounds and issues that need to be addressed before healing can take place.

In these recent months I have felt a range of emotions within this situation but what remains is knowing the need to pray for my father's conversion.

When St. Luke "selected" me to be my patron Saint this year for 2008, I was furthered in my resolve to pray for my father, his conversion, and healing.

I ask you all to also include him in your prayers, through the intercession of St. Luke and Our Lady.
