The Simple Woman's Daybook: Middle of May

Outside My Window ... is a day dawning bright and full of heat.  The crepe myrtle trees are swollen and just about ready to burst into bloom.  These are my favorite trees in the south and I can't wait!

***

I am listening to...the whir of the living room fan, some morning traffic outside, an airplace overhead.

***

To Live the Liturgy...this Wednesday, we will celebrate our Mary Crowning after daily Mass.  Our church playgroup also has their Resurrection Egg Hunt scheduled for that day.  I need to make sure we have all our supplies and are ready to go.  This weekend I get to go on a much anticipated RETREAT!!  So excited.

***

To be fit and happy...stretching, pregnancy work-out video, pool time, lots of walking, keeping up with Ms. Pearl...

***

I am thankful for... a weekend filled to the brim with friends :)  Several parties and all around awesome time visiting with dear ones who live or about to live far away.

***

From the kitchen ... Hmm...good question.  I'd like to eat more from the freezer this week, but definitely need to come up with a game plan.

***

I am wearing..."taking care of the house" clothes.  Comfortable yoga pants and a tank top.

***

I am creating ...a list of items we'll need for this princess' arrival in the Fall.

***

I am reading... Plato. No, seriously.

***

I am pondering...what topic to cover in my class's writing assignment. Hence, the reading of Plato.

***

I am hoping for...Holy Energy.  Seems to be on my prayer list everyday.

***

On Keeping Home...Lots of tidying today. Whenever we have company there is a pre-clean and a post-clean. We'll be vacuuming and putting things away today. Perhaps a grocery trip as well. For sure laundry catch-up.

***

One of my favorite things ...hearing that Pearl behaved so nicely in my abscence.

***

On the Screen...We received Secretariat to watch which should be fun.  Also was recommended "Word World" for Pearl, so we might take a look at that this week.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Getting the house back in order, Church playgroup activities, and preparing for my retreat.

***

I am praying for...Several friends who have just told me they are expecting and also for friends that just told me they are hoping to conceive.

***

A photo thought I'm sharing...While I got to attend a sweet baby shower for a friend, DH took Pearl out with some of the other Dad's and kids and they all had an afternoon at the park followed by a late lunch.  Everybody had a blast!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside My Window ... Lots and lots of pollen.  We're using our Neti pots around here.

***

I am listening to...quiet.  It's dark and early and I can't sleep anymore.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Setting aside some extra prayer time this week.  My soul is clinging to the Cross and craving time just with Him.

***

To be Fit and Happy... Hoping to utilize the weather for some outdoor fun with Pearl this week.  Walks, park time, etc.

***

I am thankful for...my mom's visit this weekend.  It was nice to have her here sharing time with Pearl and having some one on one talk time.

***

From the kitchen ... Lots of veggies that need to get eaten.  Trying to get creative with some new cooking methods for them.

***

I am wearing...yoga shorts and a hoodie.

***

I am creating ...a schedule for myself for how to fit in studying for my class.  I started a distance learning program.  Hurray!   Lots of fun, but lots of work.  Carving out time in the evenings to follow the lectures and get the reading done.

***

I am reading...study guides.

***

I am pondering...every little internal feeling.

***

I am hoping for...peace in all things.

***

On Keeping Home...Lots of tidying today.  Whenever we have company there is a pre-clean and a post-clean.  We'll be vacuuming and putting things away today.  Perhaps a grocery trip as well.

One of my favorite things ...ESPN on my phone.  It's great to check on the scores:)

***

On the Screen...If it's not hockey, it's March Madness.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Labs this week; and that's the only thing on my mind.

***

I am praying for...These lab results.  I am struggling right now with anxiety and imsomnia, thinking about this babe and whether he/she is okay.  The words that keep coming to mind..."Let not your hearts be troubled..."  Thank you for your prayers, I can sure use them this week.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside My Window ... Sun coming up, a bit chilly, but sunshine expected.

***

I am listening to...Neighbors leaving for work.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Pearl and I are becoming regulars at Wednesday's daily Mass.  She is super good there, but when we tried Friday's Mass it was ultimate failure.  Worst church behavior I've seen out of her.  It takes her awhile to acclimate to a new place.

***

To be Fit and Happy... Resting as much as I can, trying to eat well, and praying...always praying.

***
I am thankful for...the gift of life.  For whatever time we are blessed with.

***

From the kitchen ... umm, we're not talking about food today.

***

I am wearing...comfy/stretchy clothes.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

***

I am listening to...Dora the Explorer.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow and Mass this weekend with our Parish.  We're on sound ministry:)

***

***

I am thankful for...my husband who made dinner last night.  Tasty and such a treat to let him make it with Pearl as his sous chef.

***

From the kitchen ... planning meals around a stocked freezer.  Need to use up rice, beans, shredded chicken.  We also got our produce delivery yesterday and the collards and lettuce should get used pretty quick.

***

I am creating ...life.

***

I am reading...Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder

***

I am pondering... how to create some more organized spaces in our home. Living in 1000 sq. feet is tough. It really requires creativity to make this work. I am a borderline minimalmist while DH comes from a family of "keepers." (because you just might need it someday) So in order to blend these two into a peaceful living situation, we need to get better at organizing what we have, purging what we REALLY don't need and creating a system that makes us both happy. Hmmm....

***

I am hoping for...peace in my heart.

***

On Keeping Home...Going through room by room and making piles of what isn't being used.  I'm also trying to come up with ideas for more book storage.  Shelves, bookcases?  and where?

***

One of my favorite things ...comfy yoga pants.

***

On the Screen...besides Dora for Pearl, DH and I have been watching Dhani Tackles the Globe.  We are big sports fans in general and this series is fun to see sports played in other countries.
.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Playdate with a friend, birthday party for the whole family to attend, sound ministry at church.

***

Prayer Requests...for a health concern for myself and for a smooth recovery for a friend who just had surgery.  Thank you!

I am listening to...a nasty storm brewing.
***

To Live the Liturgy...love/hate relationship with

In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year (7 Volume Set)

Beautiful reflections that are just a little too close for comfort.  Why is it everyday seems to hit the nail on the head with what I'm struggling with?   :)

***

***

I am hoping for...a good report for my mom.  She is having her knee scoped next week to see what damage is done.  She thinks she tore something.  Yikes.  Praying for good results.

***

On Keeping Home...I'm starting to notice what colors I really like in our home that soothe my soul and make me happy to look at all day long.  Clean white and off white, creamy dishes, glass mason jars as vases, brown corduroy slipcovers for my couches, accents of cranberry (Winter), sage (Spring), turquoise (Summer), and pumpkin (Fall).

The Simple Woman's Daybook: Fourth Week of Advent

Outside My Window ... dark and chilly, 45 degrees.

***
To Live the Liturgy...seeking quiet to welcome Him in.

***
To be Fit and Happy...making some menu plans, resting when needed.  My body is still recovering and it's a little overwhelming right now.  But He is good and in this with me.
***
I am thankful for...dinner with friends the past three nights.  Good friends, oh such good friends.

***
From the kitchen ... ugh.  yucky smell in the fridge.  That got cleaned today.  Hidden leftovers in the back.  I hate when little containers get pushed behind juice bottles.  That was fun:)

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside My Window ... squishy. It rained a lot yesterday, so today will be very damp.

***

I am listening to...quiet. Got up early for some prayer time.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Probably Mass on Wednesday at our Parish. The Advent Penance Service is also Wednesday evening. St. Andrew's Feast Day is today, so we'll have a special treat and special prayers.

***

To be Fit and Happy...No more caffeine. I over did it during Thanksgiving week and now I'm hurting trying to cut back. So we'll ease back into de-caf. life. But I have a new stash of de-caf. tea all ready for me. I will also be easing back into exercise as my body heals and my energy levels pick back up.

***

I am thankful for...so much. Getting laundry done after a long trip, friends that continue to pray for me, surprise phone calls from best friends in the Convent, Christmas ornaments, Advent prayers, broccoli casserole, hockey games, long and energetic hugs by a 2 year old, worn rosary beads, a hot cup of tea with a friend (though by email:)

***

I am wearing...cozy fleece robe.

***

I am creating ...clean laundry piles to be put away.

***

I am reading...In Conversation with God by Francis Fernandez for my Advent reading

I am hoping for...the laundry to be caught up today.

***

On Keeping Home...hmm, seems to be revolving around the laundry. Also, setting up an Advent display and trying to remember where I put our Advent wreath.

***

I am hoping for...some tomatoes soon from the new plant we started for the Fall. There are quite a few big ones but they haven't turned red yet. Weird.

***

On Keeping Home...Taking time outs to tidy throughout our day. Learning the habit of putting things away after you are through with them.

***

One of my favorite things ...when my hair is brushed by someone other than me or scalp massages. I have never regained full depth of feeling in part of my scalp due to the nerves being cut during one of the surgeries. So the scalp massage really helps alleviate those tingles.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:

Library to exchange some books, dinner at friends, playdate with our church group, possibly stopping by the Campus Ministry party this weekend, and some medical tests this Thursday.

If you would say a prayer for me I would really appreciate it! Prayers for peace and trust in whatever the outcome. Thank you!

The Simple Woman's Daybook--Evening Edition

Outside My Window ...The sun is setting and the heat index is now under 90.

***

I am listening to...the dryer whirring.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Making plans to get to Confession, attend First Friday adoration and Mass throughout the week.

***

To be Fit and Happy...Definitely needing the ice cream to leave our freezer. That's not helping. We've been at the pool and gotten a few walks in, but I need to rev sumptin up! More cardio and DH insists on "training" me. I keep reminding him that I'm a girl and not one of the guys:)

I also had some labwork done this past week as per Dr's request. He was concerned about my Vit. D levels and just heard today that he was right: they are too low. Apparently they should be between 32-100 (that is a big range), but mine fell short at 27. So he called in a prescription which I'll pick up tomorrow.

***

I am thankful for...Grace. Pearl is cutting her second year molars and is chewing and biting on things. A very cranky little girl who is quite volatile.

***

From the kitchen ...There are three cartons of eggs in my fridge, since I'll be making "Heavenly Eggs" for the College Students' Mass and Meal tomorrow.

***

I am wearing...comfy evening clothes.

***

I am creating ...exercise plansf or me and some jazzed up play areas for Pearl.

***

I am reading... The Four Teresas by Gina Loehr. Review coming soon:)

***

I am pondering...how to create more order in my home. Specifically more de-cluttering. I realize that I am a very visual person and if thinks look nice and tidy I tend to be more peaceful throughout the day.

***

I am hoping for...wisdom and prudence as we continue our house hunt.

***

On Keeping Home... I'm re-evaluating some of the cleaning products I use. Deciding which ones I want to keep and which I want to purge.

***

One of my favorite things ...Late night card games with DH.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:

Library Storytime, a few friend visits, Mass, Adoration, Pearl's godpapa over for dinner, and a birthday party this weekend for our friend, Gabriel's, 2nd bday!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside My Window ...We've entered into the "rainy afternoon" summer season.

***

I am listening to... traffic outside.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Daily Mass on Wednesday with our Parish. I'm also starting my Feast Day Files with activities, meal ideas, etc. Mostly taken from Catholic Cuisine, but a few other sites as well.

***

To be Fit and Happy...I've been getting some walking in with Pearl in the mornings. I also need to figure out a schedule with DH so he can watch her while I use the elliptical machine.

***

I am thankful for...Grace. I know it is being showered down us as DH still struggles with his neck injury.

***

From the kitchen ...Trying to finish up some leftovers and keep the fridge at a minimum. I think I'll only need some essentials at the store later this week.

***

I am wearing...still in my PJ's:)

***

I am creating ...curricula plans for Pearl! I can't wait till this is all planned and put together. We will be starting in August when she turns two with some themes, concepts and lots of hands on play.

***

I am reading... God Never Blinks by Regina Brett.

***

I am pondering...how to create more order in my home. Specifically more de-cluttering. I realize that I am a very visual person and if thinks look nice and tidy I tend to be more peaceful throughout the day.

***

I am hoping for...a response from our cabinet man. We need one last quote and then I think we're good to go.

***

On Keeping Home... I've found a new hot spot. The ledge between the kitchen and dining space is my catch all. Time to get that under control.

***

One of my favorite things ...Watching Pearl play with the grands. We visited them this weekend spur of the moment so DH could use their spa for his neck. He seemed to feel better afterwards and Pearl had a blast playing with them!

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:

Playdate with a friend on Thursday, walking with a buddy on Wednesday, Library Run, Mass on Wednesday with the Parish, Pool time, starting to sort items for an upcoming trip.

***

A picture thought I am sharing:

Don't know if you can see them, but Pearl has taken a liking to the Holy Family statues from our nativity. They are plastic so I don't mind her playing with them. It's very sweet. She just started putting them on her fingers like puppets. When she does I make voices for them. She thinks it's hysterical.

The Simple Woman's Daybook: Post-Retreat Edition

Outside My Window ... Off and on rain today with some strong thunderstorms predicted.

***

I am listening to... whir of the fan and outside car noise.

***

To Live the Liturgy...Daily Mass on Wednesday with our Parish.

***

To be Fit and Happy...I started using the elliptical at our Complex's gym this past week. She's a beast, but it feels good afterwards.

***

I am thankful for...the finding of a diamond from my engagement ring! I noticed it missing on Friday and was really feeling down about it since I had no idea when I had lost it. DH and Pearl started looking and found it by my rocking chair. So now it's in a little baggie with the ring awaiting a trip to get re-set.

***

From the kitchen ...

I am menu planning for the week as we are expecting lots of company. I need to check a store flyer and see what I can add in from the sales to make some great meals.

***

I am wearing...green polo and navy blue skirt

***

I am creating ...a list of what needs to be done before people arrive.

***

I am reading... God Never Blinks by Regina Brett.

***

I am pondering...how to create more order in my home. Specifically more de-cluttering. I realize that I am a very visual person and if thinks look nice and tidy I tend to be more peaceful throughout the day.

***

I am hoping for...a little more energy. I feel like I'm fighting the beginnings of a bug. Either that or the gloomy weather is keeping me down.

***

On Keeping Home...DH and I have been discussing what needs to get done for our Condo. Mainly the floors: what materials to use? Also how to fix the countertops in the kitchen and bathroom. Hmm. On another note, our container garden looks great! We have two peppers growing right now with 3 more buds visible. Basil and parsley are holding up though I suspect I was over watering them. Tomato plant is getting big and looks to flower soon.

***

One of my favorite things ...1) that this past week is over! Leading up to a retreat is never good. It always seems like everything that could go wrong does. However, it means that the retreat will be excellent:) 2) getting more things free from the pharmacy for my donation bag!

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:

Dinner Guests tomorrow, My mom comes to visit Wednesday, playdate Thursday with some other moms and kids from our Church, DH's parents come visit for the weekend.
