Projects

There are quite a few things on our to-do list to complete before little girl arrives. We've decided to get DH through his last school weekend of the term before we start tackling these projects. His last weekend is May 2-4, so then we'll be golden.

However, we will be traveling to see my mother this weekend and a family friend is throwing a small shower for us. I'm excited to see friends that we don't often get to see being 4 hours away.

One item on the agenda during our visit is to talk over the Baptismal gown that we plan to use. My mother has offered us her wedding dress to cut down and sew into a gown for the babe. We plan to look over the material and check out patterns to see if this is a possbility. I'm also hoping that part of the dress can be used to make a baptismal blanket.

If the material is satisfactory, the gown and/or blanket will be made by a dear family friend who is my best friend's, Sr. Giovanna Marie, mother! She is a wonderful seamstress and we are both very excited for her to make our baptismal outfit for our family.

Addition:
1) Kimberly, I love the idea of using the wedding dress to make the first chasuble for a son who is called to the priesthood! I think my dress would be good material to use for that. Praying for the vocations of our children...

2) Lucy, we will be taking our Baptism class on the 6th of May. It is required of all parents and godparents and it is most definitely geared towards families that may not have an understanding of the Sacrament of Baptism. Our Parish does a good job with Catechesis, which is good because we get a lot of persons who aren't properly formed.

Exciting! We will be using either my mom or dad's baptismal gown. I was baptized in my dad's and my sisters were baptized in my mom's. I think my grandfather was also baptized in my dad's. We shall see which one fits best when the time comes.

Have you had to take a baptism class? Our church requires it, and it was a total waste of our time, but required. I believe the class is taught for those who are non-practicing Catholics who know nothing about baptism, yet they make everyone attend. Hopefully if you have to take one, it will be a little more useful than ours was.

I love the idea of using the wedding dress...what a sense of connectivity from the past to the future! In some cultures, a mother would use her wedding gown to fashion her priest-son's first chasuble...the garment of her virginity providing the garment of his priestly celibacy. Isn't that a lovely thought?

Blessings!
